Professional Writing Experience
My knowledge of many of the legal, insurance, and other topics on which I
have written for more than 15 years comes from hands-on experience.

As an attorney, I represented hundreds of individuals, partnerships, and
corporations in the purchase and sale of residential and commercial real
estate, and I myself invest in residential property. I wrote numerous briefs
and memoranda of law on a wide range of issues, from the equitable
distribution of a public servant's pension benefits to the reclaiming of
municipal piers from a quasi-governmental agency.

I left the practice of law to focus on writing, which is my first love. As a staff
reporter, and later Assistant Editor, for the weekly insurance magazine
National Underwriter-Property & Casualty, I covered statutory and
regulatory developments that affected the insurance industry. I attended
the quarterly meetings of the National Association of Insurance
Commissioners, and I reported on the bitter legal conflict between the
insurers of the Twin Towers and the holder of the 99-year lease on the
Towers after the September 11 attacks. I also interviewed and wrote about
industry leaders and recognized experts such as former N.J. Governor Jim
Florio (environmental protection) and Brandeis University professor Anita
Hill (employment law).

As a freelance writer, I have covered legal workshops and symposia for
the alumni publication
Columbia Law School Report. It is through this
work that I gained familiarity with the subject of the looting and recovery of
antiquities and other cultural artifacts. Currently, I am a regular contributor
of articles on real estate investing and cultural vandalism for suite101.com.

On the creative side, I won a prize in the
Three Cheers and a Tiger Spring
2004 Short Story Writing Contest. As  a playwright; my most successful
production to date has been
Morrison -- inspired by an incident in the life of
The Doors' iconic singer -- which played to sold-out audiences in an off-off
Broadway Equity showcase. I also wrote, directed, co-produced, and
co-edited
Black Sails, White Seas, a short video inspired by a nameless,
barely sketched character in Bram Stoker's
Dracula.
